As you may or may not know, National Stationery Week (AKA best week of the year) is a whole week dedicated to the stationery addicts like us in the world that simply cannot get enough of pens, pencils, notebooks and desk accessories! We think stationery should be celebrated all year round, but this week is designed to get everyone involved and remind us that stationery is fun, creative and can unite us in so many ways.
I am sure part of us all wish we could turn back time to when we’d receive a letter in the post from our distant pen pal, or be sending a postcard back home to our family detailing all of the exciting adventures of our summer holiday. National Stationery week brings back all of that nostalgia, while reminding us why putting pen to paper is so important, even in 2022!
This year, National Stationery Week falls on the 16th – 22nd May and we cannot wait for you to get involved with us. But how can I get involved, I hear you say? Look no further! We have detailed all of the ways you can get involved this year!
Monday 16th May – #Makeanoteday
The first day of National Stationery Week is make a note day! The opportunities with this day are endless and it’s definitely one that everyone can get involved with. Here are some of our suggestions, make sure you use the hashtag #makeanoteday
- Start by taking your school/college notes by hand instead of by laptop/computer. You may be surprised how much your memory begins to improve.
- Write up your weekly shopping list by hand instead of using your phone!
- Got lots of projects coming up? Grab a to-do list and write them out! After all, you are more likely to remember when things are written down…
- Start a diary! There’s nothing more special than a diary filled with all of your best memories and deepest emotions, today is the day to start one if you haven’t already!
Tuesday 17th May – #Penandpencilday
Dig out your pencil case and your favourite sharpener and give those pencils the TLC they deserve. Today is the day to use pens and pencils for everything; writing, drawing, sketching, colouring doodling…. The opportunities are endless! Why don’t you start by gathering your colouring pencils and drawing something you love? Or, if you want to really try and push your creativity skills, why don’t you create some 3D art out of pencil shavings, we love these dancing ladies! Make sure you use the hashtag #penandpencilday to share your designs!
Wednesday 18th May – #Worldstationeryday
Possibly the only Wednesday of the year we actually look forward to! There are so many ways you can get involved in this day whether you are a stationery fanatic like us, or a newbie looking for some inspiration!
- Give your study desk, home office or work desk a good clean and clear out. Then start by organising your desk accessories, filing items, notebooks, pens and pencils to create a set up you love!
- Dig out all of the loose documents, papers, bills and letters you have scattered around the house and organise them into the filing system of your dreams! Use poly pockets, dividers or sticky notes to separate different categories such as bills, bank statements or invoices.
- Get your friends together for a study club and ditch the tablets, phones, laptops and devices. Use flash cards to test each other, or a whiteboard and pen to create visual study maps packed with information!
- If you’re stationery obsessed, maybe you could dig out all of your old notebooks and create a collage of your notebooks through time? Make sure to use the hashtag #worldstationeryday
Thursday 19th May – #Workhappy
You know what they say, a tidy desk is a tidy mind! Work happy day is a time to make sure your workspace and work-life is as organised as possible. So, we’ve shared our top tips for an organised work environment, try these out today and make sure you use the hashtag #workhappy!
- Try to work at a desk where possible, working on the sofa, bed or even floor isn’t good for your posture or productivity!
- Remove all distractions such as TV, iPads and especially phones! You will be much more likely to create your best work when you’re focused
- Use a magazine holder to store any loose leaflets, magazines, text books or documents. You could have one per topic!
- Use a pencil pot holder to keep your pens, pencils and highlighters in one place
- Keep a to-do list, and not a mental one! Tick each task off as the day goes by
- Use a wall planner to visualise the key dates in your academic or work year. This is a great tool to help you plan ahead!
Friday 20th May – #FountainPenFriday
If you own a fountain pen, you will know that often the writing experience is much more special compared to a standard ballpoint or gel pen. That’s often why fountain pens aren’t used for everyday chores like writing shopping lists, scribbling down notes or doodling. Fountain pens can be very special to the owner and so this day is designed to appreciate that! If you own a fountain pen, appreciate the smooth writing experience or try out new styles by adjusting your choice of nib, hold or angle of the pen! If you don’t own one, maybe today is the day to purchase a lower end pen to trial it out and see how you get on, you may love it!
Saturday 21st May – #StationeryShopSaturday
This one is easy, get down to your local stationery store and see what they have to offer! All too often we purchase the most popular notebook or pen online, without seeing the massive choice that is actually out there. Stationery stores carry a huge range of items in different colours, sizes and designs and often have some great deals on too! If you are looking for something ‘Pukka’ you can find our products in most leading stores, as well as smaller high street stores too!
Sunday 22nd May – #SendaletterSunday
Last but not least is Send a Letter Sunday, and you need to do exactly what it says on the tin…. Send a letter! It could be to someone just down the road, or maybe on the other side of the world. Where ever they are, make sure you write your letter by hand onto paper. You can even use colouring pencils to add some colour, or stickers, stamps and washi tape to bring it to life!
So, that’s our top recommendations on how to get involved in National Stationery Week this year. Whatever you do, make sure you share your stationery adventures using the hashtags above. Good luck and happy creating!
